Traveling in and around Alpharetta is done mainly by automobile as the city isn’t directly served by the MARTA train system. There are currently plans to connect Alpharetta to Metro Atlanta by heavy rail, but that project hasn’t been completed yet. Traveling by car is also common because Alpharetta has convenient access to several major highways, including State Routes 9, 120, 140, 372, and 400.
While Alpharetta isn’t entirely walkable, it does provide trails for pedestrians and bicyclists like the Big Creek Greenway, an eight-mile concrete trail that runs from Windward Parkway to Mansell Road. Plans are in the works to connect the trail to nearby Cumming in the future.
Another future plan is for the creation of the Alpha Loop, which’ll be a network of multi-use trails that’ll connect residents to many of Alpharetta’s activity centers, parks, and jobs as a safe alternative to driving.

Alpharetta’s population is very diverse, with Whites, Asians, African-Americans, and Hispanics making up the bulk of the residents. The male-to-female ratio in the city is 50/50 and 64 percent of its adult population has earned at least a bachelor’s degree. Age-wise, Alpharetta is equally-diverse, with adults aged 45-to-54 years making up the largest group at 18 percent. Alpharetta is popular among people in all stages of their lives, including those raising families, and retirees.
Alpharetta is an affluent community where the median household income is $98,489, which is substantially higher than the national average of $55,322. The median individual income ($50,393) is nearly double the national average ($27,419), with 41 percent of Alpharetta’s working individuals earning at least $65,000.

Nightlife is also active in Alpharetta with the city being home to many excellent bars, lounges, and clubs. Some of the favorites among locals include Cordell’s Restaurant Bar & Nightlife, the jazz club The Velvet Note, Cutters Cigar & Spirits, and Cloud9 Hookah Lounge & Café. Or, for a night of energetic dancing, try Gravity or El Tribal in nearby Roswell.

Alpharetta is a city that embraces its history and culture and it offers plenty of ways to enjoy them. Every year, the city’s calendar is filled with annual events and festivals designed to bring out the best of Alpharetta, like the Taste of Alpharetta, The Wire and Wood Alpharetta Songwriters Festival, The Alpharetta Brew Moon Fest, and The Scarecrow Harvest, just to name a few.
The Downtown Alpharetta Historic District is where you’ll find historic buildings dating from the late 19th century and older. Other cultural attractions include The Mansell House and Gardens, which is also home to the Alpharetta Historical Society, The Milton Log Cabin, and the three Alpharetta Arboretums, one at Wills Park, one at Webb Bridge Park, and the third at Cogburn Road Park.
